Because my characters are constantly in my head (and they just won't shut up) I wanted to give them their own space. I love my characters, I get to know them very well and I think that's important if you want them to be realistic.
Even if a character is a vampire, or a werewolf or something else fantastical, if you know them to the point were you speak of them as real people, they will appear real to the audience. You, on the other hand, will probably appear crazy, but, hey, it's a small price to pay. Right?
