novels... but a click will take you home

Okilly, below you will find a list of novels I am currently working on and most importantly planning on finishing. Yes there are a few of them. I can't concentrate on one thing at a time, although mostly I am focusing on 'Descent' right now.

If I had to describe my writing style, and I was feeling good about myself, I might say that my writing is very visual, that I like to create vivid descriptions while still leaving things to the readers' imaginations. I am a character focused writer, so I have a fair bit of internal thought happening, all my characters are very different individuals, and they all have solid personalities. I don't do two-dimensional characters. My writing has been described by others as purple prose, but it was said by a favourite lecturer and he wasn't being overly mean. Henceforth, however, I did learn to cut down on adjectives a shade!

Major influences for me are Anne Rice (before she went weird and started writing crap - last decent book by her that I have read is Vittorio and then only really for the naughty Angels - the Vampire Chronicles died at the Vampire Armand) definately Poppy Z. Brite, who by far overshadows Ms. Rice's ability to capture the contemporary Vampire, Clive Barker for his strange array of characters, and probably any number of other authors who I can never recall without perusing my bookshelves. Plenty of influential authors are online fic-ers too. Fan fiction is a sea of inspiraton and some of my favourite stories are those by self-published authors.

Finally... anything that might have once been here that is no longer (ie. Teen Angst) has been moved to the scrap heap where people may feel free to pilfer, pillege, and recycle anything that might resemble an idea.

Descent Trilogy

I started writing these all the way back in 1998, I was 16, my writing style has changed considerably, and the quality of the earlier chapters isn't nearly as good as those in the later ones: surprise! I have recently started an overhaul though, and am pleased to note that yes I can still write these characters, they are alive and well in my imagination, and this project is still more than viable. Ultimately I want to finish the novels, convert them to film scripts and maybe not direct but supervise the productions very closely (you can stop laughing now). That's all a long way down the line, but it's nice to have a dream.

Niki, Will and Sian are vampire hunters working for a specialist government department. Niki never knew his family, was orphaned to abusive nuns, then spent a few years on the streets before being picked up by the department after some vampire related trauma. While on the job with Will and Sian he meets Evelyn and his circle of more than ordinary friends. Things start to go haywire and Niki has to change his perspective on basically everything he took as a given.

If you'd like to meet the characters from 'Descent', you may go hear their voices.
If you'd like to read a recent excerpt you can see Niki's intro here.

I started this before I finished 'Descent' for two reasons: to stop myself from trying to write too much into the first book and because I feel the characters of Evelyn and Ambrose deserved more time. This book will focus primarily on those two characters before Niki came onto the scene. That is all I am telling you, as I am at risk of releasing spoilers!

Okilly, this one is still very hazy, but I wanted to keep the descent story arc going after yoke/yolk. Also things are better in threes - just ask my muse :) There's going to be a crazy vampire setting loose a big nasty mythical beastie with general chaos ensuing. Vampires and hunters will have to team up to kill it. And stuff... I like stories!

I'm actually proud to claim this story and characters as mine, so I'm warning you now, do anything nasty with them and I'll run you down in my car. Don't be fooled by the fact that she's a tiny hatchback with fluffy purple and blue seats, she's actually very dangerous.

No I'm not happy just writing three books at once, I have to go for four. Let me be, it keeps me busy. I thought I'd give SF a go with this one, but of course there's still going to be vampires, lady boys and girls with spunk. I can't help myself. ^_^ There's only a few problems with this so far, by rights I generally hate science fiction, so I don't know how I'm going to go writing it, and I have yet to establish a plot. YAY! I do have a bunch of kick arse characters though. They live here.

So far it's something about Bayne, who's kinda a folklore figure, his cohorts, social hierarchies, decaying religion, the destructiveness of human nature, the abuse of science, and probably some violence, mysticism, blood and sex or something. I don't know...

As I learn more I'll pass on the info. But for now this one's still a mystery.
